Eighty year old, Paul Harvey, exemplifies how music aids in dealing with dementia and mental health. Despite his diagnosis, Mr. Harvey is able to still compose music and play pieces from memory. In fact, the BBC Philharmonic orchestra has recently recorded one of Paul’s pieces earning it top spots on iTunes and Amazon.
This story alone strikes a chord with Dan Alberts Piano, but even more so, because Dan’s father also struggled with dementia. Dan saw first hand how he could communicate/relate with his father using music when no other language would work. Confirming what Dan experienced first hand, he encourages others walking a similar road with loved ones to reach out with music to build a bridge or fill in the gap.
